Resources
With over 50 years of experience building community through the arts in countless classes, workshops, residencies, trainings and performances, CHAW is uniquely positioned to share its passion and expertise for upholding and uplifting the value of art, artists and artful thinking in many contexts.
Tuition ASSISTANCE
In our 50 years of operating, CHAW has never turned a student away due to inability to pay. The benefits of the arts are even more pronounced for students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, but that they often receive less arts instruction than their peers. CHAW seeks to bridge this gap by offering tuition assistance. Learn more
SPACE RENTAL
CHAW’s space use centers on the same mission that drives us in our classes, workshops, and events: Building community through the arts. We strive to make our space as accessible to everyone, including individuals and organizations seeking affordable space in the District. CHAW’s Black Box Theater, Dance Studio and Art Studio are currently available for rental for performances, rehearsals, classes, workshops, and more.
Piano studio
Drop-in practice
CHAW has a small piano studio in the basement available for individual private practice. Sign up in advance and Pay What You Will for time in the studio.
FISCAL SPONSORSHIP
A fiscal sponsor is a nonprofit organization that provides fiduciary oversight, financial management, and other administrative services to help build the capacity of charitable projects. CHAW teaching artists are eligible to apply to CHAW as a fiscal sponsor for the purposes of grant writing and other support services.

A creative and happy workforce is a productive workforce. Team building, professional development, employee appreciation — CHAW offers unique, arts-based trainings and outings tailored for your specific needs. Click here to get started.
WORKSHOPS
CHAW offers workshops for outside organizations seeking arts programming as part of their strategic mission. We also offer opportunities for visiting artists to present specialized workshops in various media and techniques to a wider artistic community.
Contact Brian Washington or Catherine Aselford for a free initial consultation. Teaching artists interested in offering a workshop should submit a proposal form along with a resume and work sample.
