DESCRIPTION:[above:   “Square Swirls”  by Marilyn Saks-McMillion] \nBy Design\nThe last show of the 2024 CHAL Art Season will open with a reception on Saturday\, November 2\, from 5:30-7:00 pm at the CHAW Gallery. This juried show has the theme “By Design” and the wide range of interpretations and media capture the imagination of design in its many forms. Juror\, Jan Kern\, an artist who creates collaged paintings that have been widely shown in exhibitions\, will discuss the selected art pieces at the reception. The show will be available for viewing through the month of November. \nCHAW Art Gallery \n545 7th St SE \nWashington DC 20003 \n  \nNote: CHAW is unfortunately accessible only via stairs. Built before the Americans with Disabilities Act became law in 1990\, our studios\, theater\, and gallery are not accessible by either an elevator or ramp. Really.\n​ \nHumans have invented intelligent robots that look just like them to do all their menial tasks. That is\, until the robots revolt. Who saw that one coming? Famous for being the first use of the word “robot”—this play invented all the tropes. \n​ \nRossum has developed a method to create human-like robots\, and a factory is built on a remote island to crank out enough robots to meet demand. Around the world\, robots quickly replace humans in what are considered menial tasks: assembly lines\, domestic labor\, secretarial work\, etc. A young woman journeys to the island to free the robots\, but in her naive enthusiasm\, becomes deeply embroiled in the fate of the robots\, and ultimately\, the fate of the human race.
