SUMMARY:We Happy Few presents "Rossum's Universal Robots (R.U.R.)" Sneak Peak
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday June 1 at 7:30pm for a sneak peak at the Original Robot Apocalypse Story. We Happy Few will be bringing Karel Čapek’s Rossum’s Universal Robots (R.U.R.) to the CHAW black box.\n\nHumans have invented intelligent robots that look just like them to do all their menial tasks. That is\, until the robots revolt. Who saw that one coming? Famous for being the first use of the word “robot”—this play invented all the tropes. \n\nWe’ll be sharing a sneak peak of the Fall 2024 performance\, a talk about robots in the media from dramaturg and self-professed sci-fi nerd Keith Hock\, and a talk with the artists involved. Drinks will be provided.\nTickets are $10 – get yours NOW!\nhttps://www.wehappyfewdc.com/rur

SUMMARY:The Coil Project Variety Hour Live Radio Recording
DESCRIPTION:The Coil Project Variety Hour Live Radio Recording\n  \nby The Coil Project \nFriday March 8th and Saturday March 9th @ 8:00pm \nBlack Box Theater @ CHAW \n545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003 \nTickets available now! –> http://tinyurl.com/3jtez7px \n\nThe Golden Age of Radio in 2024! The COIL Project Variety Hour records their bi-monthly radio show\, usually heard over the airwaves on Takoma Radio at 94.3 FM\, before a live studio audience. Watch as your favorite voice actors transform into the zany characters in the 100% fictional town of Granola Park. \nCoil Radio Director Patrick Mullen has been cooking up a one-of-a-kind live performance. For those who regularly listen to our radio show (our beloved Eternal Flames)\, we are bringing you the characters you know and love. And for some of you\, this will be your introduction to our radio universe. Either way\, we are so excited to see you and have you as our live studio audience. \nEach night will be a different episode\, so you can join us both nights for two totally different shows. Act I will be a live recording of our on-air program\, followed by a brief intermission. Act II will be a little different because it won’t be broadcast on the radio. There’s so much material we come up with that we could never put on the public airwaves\, y’all. Without the firm hand of the FCC keeping us family-friendly\, the content will be distinctly R-rated. In short\, Act I is family-friendly and Act II is not\, so you may leave during the intermission if you do not want to stay for the R-rated content. \nThe ticket price is tiered to offer a PWYC (pay what you can) option. We are fundraising for our December production and half of the proceeds from this event will go to our venue partner\, CHAW (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop)\, and their local community initiatives. \n*Please note this show will be recorded live and aired on Takoma Radio WOWD 94.3 FM. By attending the show\, you agree to have your audio response aired.

SUMMARY:Staged Readings - The Coil Project
DESCRIPTION:Staged Readings\nby The Coil Project \nFriday March 1st and Saturday March 2nd @ 8:00pm \nRun time: 90min \nBlack Box Theater\, @ CHAW \n545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003 \nTickets available now!! –> http://tinyurl.com/mt9w4kv2 \n\nFor two nights\, we are offering a chance for you to get a taste of some of the latest that The Coil Project is working on. We’re using this as an opportunity to hear some pieces aloud for the first time and give our writers a chance to come back to pieces they may want to tweak. This will be a casual night out\, so bring a friend or two and support local theater. \nHere is a little taste of what’s in store: \nA very different kind of truth \nby Erica Smith \nNine years ago\, Cass and his sister Bee disappeared. Cass came back. Bee didn’t. Now\, Cass is a pariah and Bee is still gone. Sayer believes Cass’s crazy story… but what counts as belief? And how solid can it really be? \nThis piece has also been selected to be part of the William Inge Theatre Festival this April in Kansas. Please join us in congratulating Erica on this honor! \nThe ticket price is tiered to offer a PWYC (pay what you can) option. We are fundraising for our December production and half of the proceeds from this event will go to our venue partner\, CHAW (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop)\, and their local community initiatives. \n*Please note that CHAW is not an accessible building. SUMMARY:"Girl Math" by Sarah Jamison - Gallery Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Girl Math\n  \nby Sarah Jamison\nOn Display February 26th -March 30th\, 2024\nReception: March 2\, 5:30-7:00pm\nCHAW Gallery\, 545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003 \n\n\n\nSarah Jamison’s “Girl Math” presents a new series of work\, expanding the artist’s repertoire of materials to include airbrush alongside colored pencil\, acryla gouache\, ink\, and acrylic. These pieces represent her enduring interest in art history\, culture\, and digital media while introducing autobiographical elements for the first time. Each artwork probes themes that include expectations and realities\, tropes and truths\, and the pursuit of meaning. Sarah utilizes images sourced from the public domain and personal tokens; these objects operate as both symbol and narrative in her work. \nSarah Jamison received her BFA in 2010 from the Corcoran College of Art + Design. Sarah’s solo exhibitions include IA&A at Hillyer and Latela Curatorial in Washington\, DC and A Hurd Gallery in Albuquerque\, NM. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions domestically and internationally and her work has been featured as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

SUMMARY:We Happy Few presents "Kill the Ripper"
DESCRIPTION:We Happy Few presents\nKill the Ripper\nby Fairlith Harvey\n\nOctober 25th through November 18th \nTickets are $25 : https://www.wehappyfewdc.com/killtheripper \n\nA Feminist Victorian revenge play. Finally. \n  \nIt’s Victorian England and Jack the Ripper is on the loose. The police have very few leads as to the identity of this serial killer with a penchant for prostitutes. So what are three savvy ladies-of-the-night to do? Step one: Learn to fight. Step two: Take down Jack the Ripper themselves! This is revisionist history at it’s best: told through a feminist lens and with plenty of action. This sexy\, silly\, and touching play will leave you feeling empowered and ready to take on the world! \n  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS\nKill The Ripper was written by Fairlith Harvey. It is directed by Megan Behm (CYMBELINE; Virginia Shakespeare Festival) and stars Gabby Wolfe (LA LLORONA\, LOVERS’ VOWS)\, Paige O’Malley (DESDEMONA\, TREASURE ISLAND)\, Bri Houtman (IPHIGENIA)\, and Bob Pike (IPHIGENIA\, FRANKENSTEIN). Produced by Kerry McGee. Stage management by Mackenzie Wentela. Intimacy direction and fight choreography by Casey Kaleba. Lights by Jason Aufdem-Brinke\, sound design and composition by Ethan Balis\, technical direction by Martin Bernier\, set by Megan Holden\, costuming by Madi Wentela\, props by Rose Talbot\, dramaturgy by Alex Berrios\, dialect coaching by Jenna Berk\, graphic design by Stefany Pesta. \n  \nABOUT WE HAPPY FEW\nFounded in 2012\, We Happy Few’s mission is to rediscover and reimagine classic stories that challenge\, illuminate\, and charm audiences. We Happy Few has established itself as one of Washington D.C.’s best small theatre companies (City Paper\, 2021; the DCist\, 2015) by nurturing a creative environment that thrives on ensemble collaborations with some of the nation’s most promising emerging theatre artists. WHF’s flagship production of a six actor\, 90-minute HAMLET premiered at the 2012 Capital Fringe Festival to great acclaim\, exploring the idea that the entire play unfolded in the title character’s mind. WHF’s 2017 production of HENRY V was hailed as “a fascinating\, resonant\, and important new take on a known work” (Broadway World). We Happy Few earned its first Helen Hayes Recommendation with 2018’s PERICLES\, and its first two Helen Hayes nominations for 2019’s LOVERS’ VOWS. DC Metro Theater Arts declared We Happy Few’s work “a new approach to Shakespeare you will not want to miss.” \n  \nFURTHER INFORMATION\nKill The Ripper is presented at: \nCapitol Hill Arts Workshop (545 7th St SE\, DC) on Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays from October 26th to November 18th\, with additional showings on Wednesday\, October 25th and Tuesday\, October 31st. All performances begin at 7:00PM. \nAudiences must provide proof of vaccination and take a temperature check upon entering the venue. All audience members must remain masked throughout the performance. \nTickets are $25 : https://www.wehappyfewdc.com/killtheripper \n  \nFollow us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/WeHappyFewProductions\, Twitter: \n@WeHappyFewDC and Instagram: @WeHappyFewDC for behind-the-scenes information about this show.
