SUMMARY:We Happy Few presents "R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)"
DESCRIPTION:Sadly\, the remaining performances of “R.U.R.\n(Rossum’s Universal Robots)” have been canceled. Please contact boxoffice@wehappyfewdc.com for more information.\n\nR.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots)\nby Karel Čapek\n\n\nbased on the translation by Nigel Playfair & Paul Selver\n\n\nOct 31-Nov 16\nat the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop\n545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003\nTickets: CLICK HERE\n\nThe Original Robot Apocalypse Story. Really.\n \nHumans have invented intelligent robots that look just like them to do all their menial tasks. That is\, until the robots revolt. Who saw that one coming? Famous for being the first use of the word “robot”—this play invented all the tropes. \n \nRossum has developed a method to create human-like robots\, and a factory is built on a remote island to crank out enough robots to meet demand. Around the world\, robots quickly replace humans in what are considered menial tasks: assembly lines\, domestic labor\, secretarial work\, etc. A young woman journeys to the island to free the robots\, but in her naive enthusiasm\, becomes deeply embroiled in the fate of the robots\, and ultimately\, the fate of the human race. R.U.R. is a sci-fi melodrama before the genre existed. \n\n\nDIRECTED BY – Matt Reckeweg \nFEATURING \nMade Key\, Paige O’Malley\, Emilia Pazniokas\, Andrew Quilpa\, Matthew Sparacino\, Shaquille Stewart\, and Scott Whalen \n \nDESIGN TEAM \nMakenzi Wentela (stage management) \nKerry McGee (producing) \nKeith Hock (production management) \nJason Aufdem-Brinke (lighting design) \nAmy Bormet (original music composition) \nMatt Reckeweg (set design) \nLee Gerstenhaber (costume design) \nJaimee Fricklas (technical direction) \nRobert Pike (fight choreography) \nKeith Hock (dramaturgy) \nTodd Hilgert (graphic design) \n  \nwww.wehappyfewdc.com/rur \n\n

SUMMARY:The Coil Project Variety Hour Live Radio Recording
DESCRIPTION:The Coil Project Variety Hour Live Radio Recording\n  \nby The Coil Project \nFriday March 8th and Saturday March 9th @ 8:00pm \nBlack Box Theater @ CHAW \n545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003 \nTickets available now! –> http://tinyurl.com/3jtez7px \n\nThe Golden Age of Radio in 2024! The COIL Project Variety Hour records their bi-monthly radio show\, usually heard over the airwaves on Takoma Radio at 94.3 FM\, before a live studio audience. Watch as your favorite voice actors transform into the zany characters in the 100% fictional town of Granola Park. \nCoil Radio Director Patrick Mullen has been cooking up a one-of-a-kind live performance. For those who regularly listen to our radio show (our beloved Eternal Flames)\, we are bringing you the characters you know and love. And for some of you\, this will be your introduction to our radio universe. Either way\, we are so excited to see you and have you as our live studio audience. \nEach night will be a different episode\, so you can join us both nights for two totally different shows. Act I will be a live recording of our on-air program\, followed by a brief intermission. Act II will be a little different because it won’t be broadcast on the radio. There’s so much material we come up with that we could never put on the public airwaves\, y’all. Without the firm hand of the FCC keeping us family-friendly\, the content will be distinctly R-rated. In short\, Act I is family-friendly and Act II is not\, so you may leave during the intermission if you do not want to stay for the R-rated content. \nThe ticket price is tiered to offer a PWYC (pay what you can) option. We are fundraising for our December production and half of the proceeds from this event will go to our venue partner\, CHAW (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop)\, and their local community initiatives. \n*Please note this show will be recorded live and aired on Takoma Radio WOWD 94.3 FM. By attending the show\, you agree to have your audio response aired.

SUMMARY:Staged Readings - The Coil Project
DESCRIPTION:Staged Readings\nby The Coil Project \nFriday March 1st and Saturday March 2nd @ 8:00pm \nRun time: 90min \nBlack Box Theater\, @ CHAW \n545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003 \nTickets available now!! –> http://tinyurl.com/mt9w4kv2 \n\nFor two nights\, we are offering a chance for you to get a taste of some of the latest that The Coil Project is working on. We’re using this as an opportunity to hear some pieces aloud for the first time and give our writers a chance to come back to pieces they may want to tweak. This will be a casual night out\, so bring a friend or two and support local theater. \nHere is a little taste of what’s in store: \nA very different kind of truth \nby Erica Smith \nNine years ago\, Cass and his sister Bee disappeared. Cass came back. Bee didn’t. Now\, Cass is a pariah and Bee is still gone. Sayer believes Cass’s crazy story… but what counts as belief? And how solid can it really be? \nThis piece has also been selected to be part of the William Inge Theatre Festival this April in Kansas. Please join us in congratulating Erica on this honor! \nThe ticket price is tiered to offer a PWYC (pay what you can) option. We are fundraising for our December production and half of the proceeds from this event will go to our venue partner\, CHAW (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop)\, and their local community initiatives. \n*Please note that CHAW is not an accessible building. SUMMARY:"Girl Math" by Sarah Jamison - Gallery Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Girl Math\n  \nby Sarah Jamison\nOn Display February 26th -March 30th\, 2024\nReception: March 2\, 5:30-7:00pm\nCHAW Gallery\, 545 7th St SE\, Washington DC 20003 \n\n\n\nSarah Jamison’s “Girl Math” presents a new series of work\, expanding the artist’s repertoire of materials to include airbrush alongside colored pencil\, acryla gouache\, ink\, and acrylic. These pieces represent her enduring interest in art history\, culture\, and digital media while introducing autobiographical elements for the first time. Each artwork probes themes that include expectations and realities\, tropes and truths\, and the pursuit of meaning. Sarah utilizes images sourced from the public domain and personal tokens; these objects operate as both symbol and narrative in her work. \nSarah Jamison received her BFA in 2010 from the Corcoran College of Art + Design. Sarah’s solo exhibitions include IA&A at Hillyer and Latela Curatorial in Washington\, DC and A Hurd Gallery in Albuquerque\, NM. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions domestically and internationally and her work has been featured as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
