DESCRIPTION:Join pianist Steve Baddour at Capitol Hill United Methodist Church for an afternoon of music and conversation featuring composers from across the Americas\, including the United States\, Brazil\, Argentina\, and Cuba. The program includes works by African American and Indigenous American composers. \nSteve will perform a varied program while sharing the history\, ideas\, and interpretive choices behind the pieces\, giving listeners a closer look at how music moves from the page to performance. Reception to follow. \nFamily-friendly and open to curious listeners of all ages. Proceeds from the concert support tuition assistance for CHAW music students\, helping ensure that no child is ever turned away because of an inability to pay. \nSuggested donation $25 per person

DESCRIPTION:Behind the Fence\,Malik Green\, Oil on canvas\, 36 × 48 in\, 2025 \nThis fall\, CHAW welcomes Malik Greene\, a painter based in Alexandria\, Virginia\, as our newest Artist-in-Residence. \nGreene’s figurative paintings explore themes of identity\, kinship\, and resilience\, drawing from both personal experience and collective memory. During his seven-week residency\, he will continue developing Beyond Borders\, an ongoing portrait series celebrating the faces\, stories\, and communities that make Washington\, DC unique. \nVisitors are invited to stop by the gallery throughout the residency to see Malik’s work in progress and experience his creative process firsthand. \nPlease join us for the reception Saturday October 3rd at 5:30pm. \nAugust 24 – October 10\nFree and Open to the Public \nGallery Hours M – Th 9:30 am – 9pm\, F – 9:30 am – 6pm Sa 9:30 am – 1pm
