Capitol Hill Arts Workshop will offer the ever-popular and thoroughly irrepressible “Pirates of Penzance or The Slave of Duty,” of Gilbert & Sullivan for six performances over two August weekends. “The Pirates of Penzance” will be offered on: August 8-9 and August 15-16, 7:00 PM, with additional matinee performances on Saturday, August 9th and August 16th at 3 PM. All performances are at CHAW, 545 7th Street SE, corner of G and 7th St. SE. Tickets are $20, except for the August 9th matinee when they are $10, and are available by calling 202-547-6839, or clicking on www.chaw.org. The production is funded in part by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and the Bernard Myers Fund for the Performing Arts.

This production of “The Pirates of Penzance” is under the musical direction of Barbara Schelstrate. Alvin Mayes and Jill Strachan are providing stage direction, with Mayes also serving as choreographer. Cast members hail from All Souls Jubilee Singers, D.C.’s Different Drummers, Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, and the community-at-large.

The GLBT Arts Consortium is a network of more than 15 glbt arts organizations and artists in the Washington, D.C. area that seeks to increase the visibility of glbt arts. CHAW is a community-based, not-for-profit organization building community through the arts. CHAW offers numerous ways and opportunities to get involved in the arts through classes, workshops, performance, music, art and private music instruction. This is the eighth collaboration between the Consortium and CHAW.

SAGE CHAMBER PLAYERS TO PERFORM
AT CAPITOL HILL ARTS WORKSHOP

Washington, D.C. -- The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) will host a performance by the dynamic new chamber ensemble, Sage Chamber Players, on Friday, August 15, 6-7 PM.   Sage Chamber Players, recently featured on the Millennium Stage of The Kennedy Center, will offer a program of French composers, including Fauré and Milhaud.  The August 15th, hour-long concert is a perfect capper to a summer work week. CHAW invites you to create an arts-filled weekend starting with this performance.  There is a suggested contribution of $10 at the door.  The performance will take place at CHAW, 545 7th Street SE (corner of 7th and G Streets SE) – a short distance from the Eastern Market metro stop.

Kyung LeBlanc, a founding member of Sage Chamber Players, is a violinist and violist who actively freelances in Washington, DC.   She is a teaching artist at CHAW offering private music lessons for violin.  Ms. LeBlanc has played with the National Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and has been a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has served as principal violist for the Philharmonia and Concert Orchestras of the Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music and also for the AACA and Sinfonia at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Ms. LeBlanc has participated at the Cascade Festival of Music and Prague International Spring Music Festival and has been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School and a scholarship recipient at various summer music festivals including Round Top, Weathersfield, Sewanee Music Festivals, National Orchestral Institute, and Interlochen Arts Camp.   Other members of Sage Chamber Players include:  violinists:  Nancy Jin and Hannah Eldridge, cellist Sean Neidlinger, clarinetist Joseph LeBlanc, and pianist Jennifer Yeo.

Following the performance by Sage Chamber Players, CHAW and the GLBT Arts Consortium will be offering Gilbert & Sullivan’s, The Pirates of Penzance, at 7:00 pm.
